Our democracy is built on a system of constitutional checks and balances that includes three independent branches of government. But this year, some Montana legislators have sought to undermine that independence, seeking to give the legislature more control over our courts, make them partisan, and more.
As Montanans, we depend on our courts to be fair, impartial, and unbiased.
Thanks to the voices of citizens like you, a majority of Montana legislators recently rejected bills to make our courts partisan (SB 302, HB 595). But there’s still work to be done.
There are several remaining proposals to change our constitution, including draft bills that would take away Montanans’ right to vote for our judges and give politicians the right to pick them instead. Please make your voice heard!

Dear Legislators,
Montanans want fair, impartial, and unbiased courts. I’m glad to see the legislature reject proposals to make our courts partisan.
We still have work to do though. Please support judicial independence. Oppose any efforts to amend the Montana Constitution that undermine our state’s judiciary, and don’t take away my right to vote for judges.
Thank you for your time.
