Retirement Account Distribution
When you’ve reached age 70 ½, you are subject to required minimum distributions from your IRA accounts. Donating these distributions directly to Northern Plains can provide significant tax benefits. Not only do you avoid capital gains on those distributions, the contributions are fully tax deductible. If you have any questions, please contact Caleb Lande firstname.lastname@example.org.
For many people, a gift of securities can be a good way to make a donation with significant tax benefits.
If you wish to make such a gift, please know that, when we receive the donation from a stockbroker, the information we receive may be incomplete. We may not be able to find out who made the gift! If you are planning to make a gift of securities, please contact us and let us know about the type of securities and the number of shares you are donating. Doing so is a very helpful way to make sure your donation arrives as intended.

Northern Plains has an endowment fund managed by our Investment Committee. Since its inception in 1988, this fund has enabled us to expand our program work, purchase and renovate Home on the Range, and generate revenue beyond our regular fundraising efforts.
Giving to the Northern Plains endowment sustains this work indefinitely.
The state of Montana offers extra tax credits for gifts made to the Northern Plains Endowment. Direct gifts are eligible for a 20% credit. Larger tax credits are available for specific types of planned gifts. Click here for more information.
Donor Advised Funds
A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a philanthropic giving vehicle that provides an immediate tax benefit to you while allowing you to grant funds to charities of your choice. You can give through a DAF by contacting your financial institution or your fund manager. Please include your name so we can thank you for your gift!
Our organizing work depends on a small fleet of vehicles that carry our staff along the highways and down the ranch roads of rural Montana, through all kinds of weather. If you have a roadworthy car you are no longer using, please consider donating it to us! Because your car would be put to use instead of being sold, you would be able to deduct the car’s fair market value when you itemize your taxes.
If you are considering such a gift, contact Caleb Lande at the office: (406) 248-1154 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
