2021 Soil Crawls

Northern Plains Resource Council is working to promote soil stewardship and profitable sustainable farming and ranching methods by hosting site-specific workshops, or “soil crawls” across Montana. Come learn from innovative producers as they showcase the practices and principles that help them cultivate healthy soil, prospering crops, thriving animals, and good food. We’ll be out in the field looking at soil, exploring different aspects of individual operations, and learning how we can all expand soil health across the state. Whether you’re a producer, urban gardener, or consumer of good food, these crawls will offer something new for everyone AND opportunities to connect with like-minded folks!

NOTE: Our soil crawls last the better part of a day (10 am – 4 pm) with an hour break for lunch (provided). Please be advised that all crawls involve some physical exertion and outdoor activity regardless of weather conditions.

Join us this summer on a Montana farm or ranch for a soil crawl!

Dryland Grains and Vegetables – **POSTPONED**

NOTE: We are sorry to report that this event has been postponed due to drought and other adverse weather. Environmental conditions have placed extra strains on our hosts, and we want to respect their time and their operations.  We look forward to rescheduling this event when conditions improve for a soil crawl and when our hosts have less on their plates to contend with.

Please note that all prior registrants will automatically receive a full refund. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Self-described regenerative organic farmer Bob Quinn walks us through his diversified farm, specifically focusing on his highly successful dryland grains. Bob will also take attendees through his experimental dryland vegetable plots and share how he’s successfully farmed in the arid climate.
