Lessons from Indigenous Organizing: A Grassroots Solution for Local Food on the Flathead Reservation

Thursday, August 18th from 6:00 pm-7:00 pm

During this virtual event, we’ll hear from Patrick Yawackie, from the Flathead Reservation. Patrick and his wife, Regina MadPlume founded the People’s Food Sovereignty Program, a Native led, grassroots organization that promotes food sovereignty and self-determination for the tribal members living on the Flathead Reservation. Launched in 2020 in response to the pandemic, the People’s Food Sovereignty Program was created in response to a growing demand for culturally relevant food in the face of food access challenges on the Flathead  during the pandemic – but the program aims to sustain the Tribe well into the future.

From bison to community gardens, the People’s Food Sovereignty Program is rooted in the community and people it came from.
