Please join Sleeping Giant Citizens Council, our Helena-area affiliate, on Tuesday, June 20th for the Held v Montana Trial and a post-trial rally in Helena. We’ll be attending the trial during the day, and then rallying in the park in the afternoon in support of the youth plaintiffs. You’re welcome to attend either or both events!
The Held v Montana Trial is the first children’s climate trial in history. Sixteen youth plaintiffs between the ages of 5 and 22 are suing the state of Montana for the right to a clean and healthful environment, as outlined in the Montana Constitution, citing ever-increasing negative physical and mental harm on the next generation due to climate change. The plaintiffs are asking for a re-evaluation of Montana’s energy policy, urging the state to purchase more renewable energy sources and phase out fossil fuels.
We are proud to support the brave youth behind this lawsuit and invite you to join us to show your solidarity! At the rally there will be a line-up of speakers, music, and food trucks!
To attend the trial:
The trial starts at 9 am at First Judicial District Court (228 E Broadway St, Helena). If the courtroom is full when you arrive, you will be directed to one of our other viewing locations where the trial will be livestreamed. (If you’d like to volunteer with directing folks with where to go, please arrive by 8 am.)
To attend the rally:
The rally begins at 5:30 pm at Pioneer Park (120 S Last Chance Gulch St, Helena).
