On October 9th, the second Monday of October, along with Montanans across the state, Northern Plains is celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
Indigenous Peoples’ Day is a celebration of the power and presence of Montana’s First Peoples. It’s also a day to recognize our full, shared history as Montanans. We honor that history as we reflect on our own connections to the land.
Northern Plains is honored to have collaborated with Western Native Voice on a video series celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Check out one of those videos, featuring rancher and Northern Plains member Jeanie Alderson, below!
“My family has ranched this land for five generations. But as Montanans, we recognize that this land has a much longer history. For centuries, it’s served as a place of healing, hunting, and gathering for Indigenous Peoples.” – Jeanie Alderson
