Our plans have changed slightly since we first announced this event to ensure more people can easily participate! We’ll be gathering at Riverside Park for a rally before sending off a crew of folks floating in kayaks, canoes, and other watercraft. That flotilla will be carrying a message to NorthWestern Energy that Montanans don’t want this expensive, polluting plant!

BACKGROUND:
NorthWestern is forcing its expensive methane-fired plant onto captive customers, torching household budgets by sending our power bills higher and higher. The out-of-control monopoly utility is seeking yet another another rate increase this year to pay for the plant, right after the 28% increase it saddled us with last year.
The project remains mired in legal disputes over its air quality permit given the hundreds of tons of air pollution it will emit. Another lawsuit is underway regarding the plant’s unresolved zoning status after it was knowingly and improperly built by NorthWestern on land zoned for agricultural use.
Despite these legal questions, one thing is clear: We can’t afford the monstrous rate increases this methane monster would add to our electricity bills! Don’t let NorthWestern stomp all over our wallets while breathing dangerous pollution throughout the Yellowstone River valley!
Come have some FUN by the river while standing up for our right to safe, affordable energy! Let’s tell NorthWestern Energy that we won’t pay for its horrible financial investment.
WANT TO BE PART OF THE FLOTILLA DOWN THE YELLOWSTONE RIVER? PLEASE READ!
Please note that those who want to participate in the float down the Yellowstone River will need to provide their own watercraft and coordinate their own route, shuttle transportation, and take-out point. A personal flotation device (PFD) will be required as well as a signed liability waiver. We want to ensure a safe time for all!
Most of our current float participants have already determined a route from our rally site at Riverside Park to a take-out at Duck Creek Bridge in Billings, roughly 7.5 miles downstream. We estimate this route would take 3-4 hours, depending on river flow.
