If you are interested in reading more about our specific concerns, please refer to the document of our concerns below.
We, the undersigned residents of Cascade County, request that our Cascade County Commissioners:
- Send an official letter to the Public Service Commission, requesting reasonable protections from large load impacts of hyperscale data center development across Montana, including:
- Establishing a separate rate class and tariff for very large electric loads;
- Putting binding protections in place to prevent boom-bust risk and stranded costs from being shifted to existing ratepayers;
- Maintaining strong reliability safeguards so that service to large new loads does not adversely affect current customers and the economic stability of key local employers; and
- Insisting on a transparent process to ensure that the public understands what is being proposed and the potential impacts.
- Send an official letter to Governor Gianforte and his Energy Task Force to adopt protections for citizens and our natural resources in planning for hyperscale data center development across Montana.
- Enact a temporary moratorium on any hyperscale data center development until such time as county zoning and/or statewide legislation is in place to reasonably regulate such data centers.
