Not many farms can claim a world record, let alone numerous local and national awards. Yet, Wheat Montana has accomplished all three. They have cut, milled, mixed and baked a loaf of bread in just 8 minutes and 13 seconds, and been honored with the Family Business of the Year, Small Business Person of the Year, and the Best Managed Farm Nationally. Even with so many outstanding accomplishments, many of us know Wheat Montana for their giant cinnamon rolls and bear claws at their bakery between Butte and Bozeman.

Wheat Montana: All about local

Wheat Montana is a 15,000 acre dry-land wheat farm near Three Forks, Montana with bakeries across the state, and wheat and grains sold across the country. The third generation of family farming was started in 1958 by Dale Folkvord, a student at MSU College of Agriculture, and now his son Dean Folkvord manages the operation with his family. Wheat Montana employees over 180 employees across the state and is a huge economic driver for the Three Forks region.

Low rainfall, cool evenings, and 5,000 feet of elevation provides for ideal growing conditions for wheat. The unique landscape is near the headwaters of the Missouri river, and surrounded by the Elkhorn Mountains. Not only do they grown wheat, but other high quality grains that they process, small batch craft mill and bake.

So next time you are in the region, make sure to stop by and get a treat!
