Montana has not kept up with other states regarding solar energy. We can change that by calling or writing our state legislators and urging them to vote “yes” on House Bill 504. Call 406-444-4800 to leave a message for your legislator. You can also send a message at leg.mt.gov.

HB 504, the Solar Jobs and Energy Freedom Act, would give Montanans access to affordable solar energy, create jobs and increase Montana’s energy independence. The price of rooftop solar has dropped 80 percent since 2008, making it as affordable as traditional sources of power. It’s also a huge job creator. Nationally, the solar industry created jobs at 12 times the rate of the overall economy in 2015.

This session, our Legislature has continued to stall on this issue, refusing to remove antiquated regulations that limit Montana’s energy freedom and block job growth in clean energy. HB 504 would raise the arbitrary caps on solar power systems that currently discourage home and business owners from utilizing solar. It would also enhance community solar projects that benefit those who rent or live in a home not suitable for a solar array. As Montanans, it’s time that we demand our right to make truly wise energy choices. Please join me in contacting your legislator today and asking them to vote yes on HB 504.
