“Whitebark Pine: Keystone Species of High Montane Ecosystems, Climate, Ecology and Distribution in the Beartooth Mountains”
Thursday, February 25
6:30 – 8 PM
Join Carbon County Resource Council for a virtual evening with retired USFS Landscape and Vegetation Ecologist Jeff DiBenedetto and a presentation on the threatened whitebark pine. Our backyard Beartooth Mountains are home to the whitebark pine, a keystone species connected to grizzly bears, Clark’s nutcracker, and red squirrels in the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem. Jeff will cover the whitebark pine’s ecology, unique role within the ecosystem, and the threats posed to it by a changing climate. A Q&A will follow the presentation for an opportunity for the audience to ask questions.
6:30 PM: Jeff’s presentation
Q+A at 7:15 PM
7:30 PM: Meeting of the Membership
This is a virtual event! The event is free, but registration is required!
