Tell the PSC to uphold our rights by adopting a climate rule!

Because of people like you, we are making big progress to address climate change in Montana! Last month, a broad group of Montana organizations including Northern Plains submitted a petition to the Montana Public Service Commission (PSC) demanding it adopt rules to consider climate change in its oversight of Montana’s energy utilities. Hundreds of Northern Plains members like you signed a letter in support of that petition.

Well, the PSC heard our demands and has scheduled a public hearing and comment period about adopting a climate change rule! The hearing is Monday, April 8 at 9 AM in Helena.

The new rule would require the PSC to “consider the impacts of its decisions on the environment and human health, including analyzing the impacts of climate change.”  If adopted, this rule would be a game-changer for energy policy in Montana, and a huge win for the health of our climate!

The landmark youth climate trial, Held v. Montana, made clear that ignoring climate change is a violation of our constitutional right to a clean and healthful environment. Let’s all summon the same courage and commitment those brave young litigants displayed by making our voices heard! We can’t take this opportunity for granted.
