Tell DEQ and Gov. Gianforte to prioritize MT schools

Many Montana communities have been struggling to fund needed upgrades for aging school infrastructure. With inflation, property taxes, and increasing energy rates, lowering costs for schools is more important than ever to make sure our kids get a quality and safe education. As a result, Northern Plains and the Electrify Montana Coalition submitted a proposal to the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to fund a wide-ranging energy efficiency grant program using federal money to make critical infrastructure upgrades.

We see this as a win-win-win: Montana schools get much needed funding for infrastructure upgrades while also reducing their energy footprint and saving taxpayer dollars.

Together, we cleared the first hurdle: DEQ included much of our exact school upgrade language in their action plan. But the action plan is not enough – it needs funding. Now we need them to follow through and apply for $50 million to help schools implement critical infrastructure upgrades.

Public input is essential! We need to submit a new round of comments to ensure DEQ and Governor Gianforte will prioritize schools and apply for the $50 million grant.

Please take a moment to fill out the form below sharing your personal experience, noting the following:

  • Has your school experienced energy efficiency or infrastructure needs or issues?
  • How has it impacted students, or the quality of their education?
  • Would you be interested in your school receiving grant money to address these issues if it was available?
  • Please urge DEQ to prioritize Montana Schools and apply for the $50 million grant.

Please submit your comment by 1 PM, Thursday, February 15!
