Tell the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to support energy efficiency upgrades for schools!
Recently, the state of Montana received a planning grant to formulate a greenhouse gas reduction plan for the state. Governor Gianforte designated the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) as the lead agency to facilitate a public planning process. The resulting Climate Action Plan will include strategies to reduce pollution and support thriving Montana communities through innovation, not regulation.
During the program kick off, Dawson Resource Council and Northern Plains members expressed interest in including schools in the pollution reduction plan. The government responded favorably and has asked us to gather comments in support. We would like DEQ to include a program for energy efficiency upgrades in schools such as weatherization, insulation, HVAC, and other infrastructure like solar generation. This program would help schools pay for badly needed infrastructure upgrades by using over $4 billion made available by the Environmental Protection Agency. Let’s use our taxpayer dollars to actually benefit our taxpayers!
If your community’s school has experienced difficulties with HVAC systems (like an old boiler!), weatherization and insulation, energy inefficiency or high energy costs, please submit a comment below and share your personal story! Please submit your comment by Friday, January 5!
